Sales Director - Telecom / Wireless Industry

The NPD Group, founded in 1966, is the leading global provider of consumer and retail market research information for a wide range of industries. We provide critical consumer behavior and point-of-sale (POS) information and industry expertise across more industries than any other market research company.

The Director-Business Development in our Telecom business unit is responsible for generating new revenue from sales to new clients and leading significant sales initiatives involving consumer POS and panel market research products and services which uncover emerging needs and consumer behaviors.  Products and services include syndicated POS (point-of-sale), consumer data, proprietary custom research, and advanced analytics.

Overall Responsibilities:
• Identifying potential new customers and prospective contacts within the Telecommunications industry.

• Recruiting U.S. operators / carriers to participate and share POS data with NPD. 

• Achieve annual and monthly sales / revenue goals.
• Develop and implement comprehensive sales plans and presentations for handset manufacturers, carriers, component manufacturers and accessory manufacturers apply knowledge of POS and consumer information to demonstrate measurable business results.
• Prospect potential new customers through attendance at trade shows, industry events, and through industry news and publications.
• Develop relationships and work with executive-level (C-Level) contacts to engage in development discussions that generate opportunities that ultimately drive revenue for the BU.
• Work in conjunction with Sales Leadership to create sales goals and timelines for each prospect; prepare and follow-up on detailed proposals, which speak directly to customer needs; and negotiate agreements that are fair and equitable for both the client and NPD
• Utilize consultative selling approach to identify a prospect’s business issues or strategic initiatives and recommend relevant program options.
• Work with the NPD corporate marketing team to develop messages, targets, presentations, and follow-up for contacts for new customer campaigns.
• Work with NPD Officers and Internal support groups to identify opportunities that address business issues through your application of knowledge of the Telecommunications Industry, NPD/BU products, and POS and Consumer data and data usage.
• Work in conjunction with the Client Development team to support up-sell opportunities
• Work in conjunction with the Product Development team to new product ideas and initiatives
• Grow revenue of the existing accounts as well as identifying new business opportunities within the given budget structure.

Qualifications:
• An established sales track record in business development and sales
• Experience in a Telecommunication / Wireless Industry
• Consumer insights and/or market research experience a plus.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong organizational and project management skills
• Strong presentation and follow-up skills
• Proven ability to analyze customer needs and goals to assist in generating thoughtful, creative proposals that exceed customer expectations and expand revenue opportunities
• Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain long-term relationships
• Expert in all MS Office products. (Strong Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
• BA/BS degree or equivalent
• Travel ~30%
