POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Purchasing will be responsible for overseeing purchasing related activities for all parts of the business.

Supply Chain and Logistics

  • Maintains and develops ongoing supplier relationships with the goal of sustaining competitive advantage by sourcing equipment and supplies which enhance the Company’s unique offerings and points of differentiation 
  • Networks throughout industry and commodity businesses to gain market intelligence and benchmark availability and best price/performance
  • Effectively works with business units to drive development and implementation of supply chain management techniques to enhance supplier performance at the lowest overall cost to the business and without diminishing the member experience
  • Effectively negotiates and controls supply chain contracts and vendor relations to provide cost and logistical benefits
  • Ensures compliance with contracts and that negotiated contracts are implemented to maximum effect
  • Identifies and conducts sourcing initiatives across the enterprise where applicable and engages cross functional teams to obtain the optimal results
  • Continually identifies and implements improvements to the purchasing administration systems in order to reduce the incidences of fragmented spend and overall transaction cost
  • Ensures Occupational Health & Safety practices are maintained and monitored
  • Prepares periodic reports on the status and operation of the department (with appropriate KPI metrics including cost avoidance, cost savings, etc.) and is active in the annual budgeting and ongoing forecasting processes
  • Effectively communicates with external suppliers and internal clients
  • Ensures all internal customers are afforded prompt, efficient and courteous service at all times
  • Reviews and adds suggestions for improving Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), ensuring activities of the department comply fully with all Company policies and procedures
  • Ensures established procedures are adhered to, correcting any diversions courteously and immediately
  • Ensure robust supplier audit program is executed throughout the supplier base
  • Resolves supplier issues related to accounting, quality, and logistics

 

 New Club Openings

  • Oversees all new club opening ordering, installation and site verification for fitness, spa, group fitness and personal training equipment and associated accessories and AV equipment, on time and on budget

 

Existing Clubs 

  • Directs timely purchase and installation of fitness spa, group fitness, Pilates, Laundry and AV equipment, and other minor appliances on budget
  • Plans and procures replacement parts and components for certain equipment
  • Plans and procures member amenities (e.g., locker room) as well as goods for resale in self-operated cafés

 

 Lease Review and Audits

  • Handles landlord questions and routine communications regarding amounts owed under lease
  • Audits  and approves monthly rents, landlord billed utilities, common area maintenance charges (CAM), and real estate tax charges in accordance with lease terms

 

 Sub-Tenants

  • Directs sub-tenant relations as to billing/collection of monthly rents, and enforcement of lease terms.

 

KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Ability to lead, manage and execute key deliverables within short deadlines
  • Must be able to work both independently and in project team oriented work groups
  • Ability to excel in a multi-tasking environment
  • Demonstrates highly developed analytical thinking and can execute solutions for a diverse range of intellectual and practical problems requiring an in-depth evaluation of various factors
  • Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and procedures to determine methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • 5+ years prior experience in managing purchasing, procurement or supply chain, with accompanying experience automating the supply chain
  • Works well independently
  • Excellent business and negotiating skills
  • Strong leadership and communication skills (both written and oral)
  • Exercises independent judgment and make sound business decisions effectively
  • Basic technology skills, including Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Internet, Excel and Access
  • Experience working directly with accounts payable environment a plus
  • Military logistics and supply chain experience a plus
  • Six Sigma training a plus
  • Experience with post-merger business integrations a plus
  • Other evidence of professional accreditation such as CPM or CPSM a plus
  • Basic knowledge of contract law a plus

 

EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree required
