EDUCATION • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Computer Science (Master's degree in engineering or MBA is a plus)The Device Marketing Strategy team at Verizon Wireless is responsible for the development and prioritization of the strategic portfolio evolution of mobile devices. The primary area of focus of the team is to drive new ways for Verizon Wireless to generate revenue by enhancing user experience using Verizon Wireless' devices.
This position is a high profile, key technology innovation role within Verizon Wireless Device Marketing Strategy organization. The Device Strategy Manager has overall responsibilities that include driving change and technology initiatives into the VZW device line up. Individual will focus on driving industry leading mobile initiatives by driving development efforts with various suppliers, including OEMs, Chip set vendors, OS vendors and other suppliers. Individual will manage multiple highly complex device development projects simultaneously driving new device technologies. Drive Verizon Wireless direction on Smartphone, Netbooks and tablet solutions for consumers as well as businesses. Solutions must be analyzed, developed and deployed in dynamic environment. Various phases of projects/initiatives will need to be clearly documented and communicated at various levels of internal and external organizations.
This position will have the responsibility to manage the mobile payment strategy (e.g. ISIS) for Verizon Wireless and how it fits in the overall company strategy. Candidate should have a strong technical background in mobile device development with a strong marketing and strategy skills to understand how the technology can drive the strategy and the business deliverables.
Position will be located in Basking Ridge, NJ reporting to the Device Marketing organization. Key skill sets include:
• High level understanding of hardware and software in mobile devices. For hardware a high level understanding of mobile chipsets, security hardware (e.g. SIM/UICC), and connectivity components would be needed. For software a basic understanding of operating systems, secure computing environment, application development environment, user interface, communication stacks, and related software.
• Multidisciplinary skill sets in understanding basic mobile communication like voice, video and messaging.
• High level understanding of mobile applications. These will include multimedia environments location based services and mobile payment.
• Identify market place trends by understanding primary and secondary research and through existing product reporting and analytics.
• Be the strategy evangelist and the market expert.
• Understand Verizon's strategic and competitive position in the mobile payment space, and work to refine and deliver the best mobile products to improve that position.
• Develop strategy roadmap and track to execution of product delivery.
• Drive business and technology stakeholder teams to execute the strategy through the product development life cycle.
• Focus on best in class user experience.
• Develop clear and concise reporting of strategy and potential gaps/shortcomings with plan to address.
• Own the creation of user scenarios, high level product specifications, and maintain the prioritized product backlog throughout the product lifecycle.
• Work with financial planning teams in order to understand cost benefit analysis for strategic programs.
• Be accountable for strategy objectives and have intricate visibility into product performance in the market.
• Have a deep curiosity for how customers use products and services post launch Go to Market functions.
• Help develop and deliver presentations which illustrate the strategy vision, performance, any known areas of the relationship which require attention, and associated recommendations.
