However, the hiring process you currently use may get in the way of finding active candidates. Seek out the most qualified applicants with these strategies to streamline your processes and simplify your job.

Look Beyond Passive Candidates

It is possible for hiring managers to overlook active job seekers when several passive candidates, or people who aren't actually in the market for a new job, eagerly apply. An active candidate who is currently employed but seeking a change is not necessarily an undesirable choice. In fact, there are many reasons why these applicants are interested in your firm. It may be that the applicant wants to find a new opportunity or change careers for personal and professional fulfillment. You may also find that active candidates bring a fresh perspective to the industry and your company.

Revise the Job Description

Your process could hinder your ability to attract qualified job seekers. Begin by revising the job description to accurately detail the required skills, the most desirable traits you are seeking in an employee and a detailed compilation of the tasks the employee will be responsible for on the job. Give prospective employees who read the post a clear picture of how the company operates and the ins and outs of the company culture so they can assess whether the opportunity is a good fit. A concise and detailed job description might trim down applications submitted by individuals who are unqualified as well, which ultimately frees up more of your time to focus on the job seekers who are a good fit.

Ditch a cumbersome hiring process, and avoid losing out on job seekers who can positively impact your firm. Evaluate the process to identify any steps that are time-consuming and unnecessary. Streamline the process, too, by requesting that all applicants submit and upload materials on an online platform or use an applicant-tracking system customized for the position. Instead of requesting applicants to post duplicate information on multiple tabs, provide an option to upload cover letters and resumes to maximize their time. Hiring managers can save time and frustration by choosing a portal that is user-friendly and low maintenance while also attracting candidates who are ideal for the position.
